Rhymenoceros

I got asked a few times at PKR Live where my screen name comes from.  It's from the Flight of the Conchords which I highly recommend if you've never seen it.  It was on HBO in the States but only on some secondary satellite channel over here so a lot of people in the UK have never heard of it.

The series is full of scenes where they break into song and one of my favorites was a rap in episode three where  Bret and Jermaine call themselves 'Rhymenoceros' and 'Hiphopopotamus':

Another particularly good song in it is 'Business Time'.  The lyrics in that are genius.

I'm still in the midst of my tournament month, but will wait till the end of May to do a full update on how it's gone.  But let's just say, unless I bink something between now and then, it's going to be ranty!

Tourney Update

My tournament month has been 'interesting' so far.  I feel like I'm learning a lot about the best way of grinding these things and my tournament game is definitely improving all the time.  Each time I play a session I have an intention of playing a certain amount of tournaments or registering for everything I feel like between certain hours.  This would typically be from 6pm GMT onwards.  However, I tend to feel burnt out after a few hours and stop registering even when there are potentially good tournaments starting.  I guess this is to do with being used to playing shorter cash game sessions.  Being able to grind multiple tables of tournaments for long sessions is a great attribute to have as a pro MTT player.

In terms of my results, they have been pretty rubbish so far at either breakeven or a bit in the black, I'm not sure.  I do realise I could have a run A LOT worse which is worth acknowledging.  I have final-tabled three Full Tilt tournaments with five figure first prizes only to come 7th, 8th and 9th for relative pocket change.  Frustrating.  My best result has been in a PKR WSOP satellite where I shipped it for a $4.2k prize.  This includes entry to a $1k WSOP event, really sweet accomodation for a week, and $1.4k in cash for flights and expenses.  The WSOP event I'm being put into comes very near the end of the series, so I'm considering staying on for the main event which comes soon after.  I'm going to try some satellites, but failing this will sell some action and just buy in direct.  Vegas should be fun anyway.

Other live tournaments I've got coming up is a £500 double chance down the road at the Brighton Grosvenor this Saturday, and then PKR Live the weekend after so hopefully I can do some damage in one of those.

I was shown this thread which has a load of cool pictures on it.  Some of them are quite disturbing so be warned.  I rather wish I didn't watch the video of the politician that commits suicide live on televsion (I won't post the link from here but you can find it in the thread if you look hard enough).  On that cheery note, goodbye.

First tourney session

Played my first session of tournaments in May and got off to a fairly meh start.  At one point I had eight tables going on my laptop, which included a few 6m tournaments and I found that quite difficult which is something I will bear in mind in the future.  I'll probably try to only play a maximum of eight full ring tournaments at once on my laptop or ten on my desktop.  The session started off well with my getting some good stacks going in some of the bigger tournaments.  Unfortunately I got knocked out of one of my ftops entries in frustrating bad beat fashion and it all rather unravelled from there. Here are yesterday's results:

  • FTP - 18k Grt - $55 1r1a - $155 - BUST
  • FTP - 17.5k Grt - $75 - BUST
  • Stars - Warmup - $215 - $712.15
  • Stars - Big 50k - $109 - BUST
  • FTP - 2x KO ftops - $512 (4 KOs = $160) - BUST
  • Stars - 5k Turbo - $75 - BUST
  • Stars - DNG - $55 - BUST
  • FTP - 150k Grt - $163 - BUST
  • Stars - Sunday Mill - $215 - BUST
  • FTP - 12k Grt - $75 - $95.01
  • Stars - $109 Turbo - BUST
So total outlay was $1758, with prizes of $967.16, equals a loss of $790.84.

Not the greatest start but looking forward to crushing my next session.
